"Oh What A Lovely War" Costume design

In collaboration with Nottingham College, I designed and created costumes for a theatrical production inspired by Joan Littlewood and her Theatre Workshop's renowned Oh, What a Lovely War! Originating in 1963, the play satirizes World War I and the concept of warfare. The set design by Marta Sitarz complements the costumes, creating a cohesive visual experience. The title stems from the ironic music hall song, 'Oh! It's a Lovely War!'

Reimagining the Harlequin: A Contemporary Twist on Tradition

My costumes provide a contemporary take on traditional harlequin attire, blending classic elements with modern symbolism. Bold patterns and vibrant colours reflect themes of societal dynamics and human relationships.

Unconventional fabrics and innovative silhouettes elevate the costumes as metaphors for modern life. The harlequin's role as a trickster symbolises transformation and challenges conventions, offering a fresh perspective that honours tradition while resonating with today's audience.
